He completed his specialization in Plastic Surgery at the Prof. Dr. Oswaldo de Castro Plastic Surgery Service, accredited by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP). He subsequently pursued advanced training in Breast Surgery at Hospital Pérola Byington, one of Brazil’s leading referral centers for women’s health and breast care, and completed a postgraduate degree in Laser and Cosmiatry at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo. With more than 14 years of experience in ultrasonography, Dr. Carvalho has dedicated a significant part of his clinical and academic career to integrating real-time ultrasound imaging into plastic surgery. His approach extends beyond diagnostic imaging, incorporating ultrasonography into anatomical assessment, preoperative planning, intraoperative decision-making and guidance, and postoperative evaluation. Building on this experience, he developed EchoSculpt, a methodology specifically designed for plastic surgeons to incorporate ultrasonography into everyday clinical and surgical practice. Rather than approaching ultrasound as an isolated diagnostic examination, EchoSculpt translates ultrasonography into the anatomical and procedural language of plastic surgery. The methodology integrates recognition of relevant anatomical layers and structures, tissue assessment, preoperative mapping, intraoperative guidance, and postoperative evaluation. At the core of EchoSculpt is the concept of making anatomy visible in real time. By integrating anatomy, imaging, and surgical technique, the methodology provides the plastic surgeon with additional objective anatomical information to support clinical reasoning, surgical planning, and intraoperative decision-making. This image-guided approach has become one of the central pillars of Dr. Carvalho’s clinical and educational work, particularly in breast surgery, high-definition liposuction, and advanced body contouring. In breast surgery, his clinical and academic interests include mastopexy with and without implants, breast implant surgery, explantation, tissue-based breast reshaping, individualized surgical planning, and ultrasound assessment of breast tissues, implants, and the anatomical planes involved in breast surgery. In body contouring, his work encompasses high-definition liposuction, circumferential body contouring, abdominal contouring, fat grafting, and advanced body-frame definition, integrating surgical anatomy, ultrasound imaging, and contemporary surgical technologies. Dr. Carvalho is a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), and BAPS – Associação Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica Estética (Brazilian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery). Within BAPS, he serves as Coordinator of the Body Contouring Surgery Division, contributing to scientific development, continuing medical education, and advanced surgical training in contemporary body contouring surgery. An international speaker and instructor, Dr. Carvalho participates in scientific meetings, courses, and advanced surgical training programs in Brazil and internationally. His international teaching experience includes serving as an instructor at UGRAFT, Hands on Ribs, the 360 Lipo Course in Barcelona, and LipoVision. His teaching activities encompass ultrasound-guided plastic surgery, surgical anatomy, high-definition liposuction, advanced body contouring, fat grafting, breast surgery, and the integration of imaging and technology into contemporary aesthetic surgery.
