World Patient Safety Day 2026—Raising Standards, Educating Surgeons, and Protecting Patients

World Patient Safety Day, observed on September 17, is especially important to ISAPS because it underscores our ongoing commitment to safe, effective aesthetic procedures and to improving patients' quality of life worldwide.

Our educational resources and opportunities equip members with current information on global standards and emerging technologies. For plastic surgeons, we provide tools such as the ISAPS Patient Safety Diamond and promote adherence to Safety Considerations. Patients can access detailed procedure information, expert guidance, checklists, and the interactive Find a Surgeon tool to support safe, informed decisions about aesthetic procedures.

Recently, we introduced the Patient Safety Guidance Library, a comprehensive online resource containing the latest statements and guidelines on patient safety. We encourage you to watch the instructional video by Dr. André Cervantes, Chair of the ISAPS Patient Safety Committee, which shows you how to navigate the site.

This month, we are pleased to present several patient safety highlights, including an Instagram Live session on plastic surgery following significant weight loss and a feature on the Foad Nahai Patient Safety Award recipient, Dr. Samuel Knoedler, in the September E-Magazine.

Although World Patient Safety Day comes once a year, our dedication to patient safety is a daily promise. We thank our members for upholding ISAPS' highest standards and making a difference every day.

Patient Safety—central to everything we do.
