ISAPS Fellowship Series!
Enjoy stories from fellows who took part in the ISAPS Fellowship Program during the past year. We are excited to introduce them, and hope their perspectives inspire participation for future fellows.

Fellow Hosts: Drs.Tunc Tiryaki, Akin Yucel, and Nazim Cerkes (Istanbul, Turkiye)
"Spending three months in Istanbul for my fellowship has been an extraordinary experience, not only professionally but also personally and culturally. From the very first day, the surgeons who welcomed us were genuinely committed to sharing their knowledge without any sense of jealousy or reservation. Whether in the operating room, during clinical discussions, or in informal moments of exchange, we experienced a true spirit of collaboration.
We learned how essential it is to be part of a team—a community of surgeons who believe in continuous education and in the importance of passing on their expertise. Sharing knowledge enriches not only those who receive it, but also those who give it, fostering a dialogue that elevates both surgical practice and human connection.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Prof. Nazim Cerkes, Prof. Tunc Tiryaki, and Prof. Akin Yucel—outstanding examples of professionalism, passion, and integrity. Their generosity, attention to detail, and vision of surgery and mentorship are models I aspire to follow throughout my career.
Beyond the operating room, Istanbul was the perfect backdrop for this experience. A chaotic and fascinating city, full of contradictions, history, and tradition—where past and present are constantly interwoven. It is a crossroads where ancient cultures meet, clash, and blend, creating a unique and vibrant identity.
This experience has enriched me not only as a surgeon but also as a person. I leave with new skills, meaningful relationships, and a broader perspective on both surgery and life."
The ISAPS Fellowship offers an outstanding international training experience. We encourage our ISAPS Resident and Associate members to learn more, apply, and take advantage of this opportunity.
