Patient Safety in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Patient safety is at the heart of ISAPS’ mission. Through education, guidance, and global collaboration, we support plastic surgeons in delivering the highest standard of safe, ethical, and effective aesthetic care.

Since 1970, ISAPS has championed patient safety in aesthetic plastic surgery. Our vision is a world where every procedure is performed with the highest standards of care - enhancing patient outcomes, confidence, and well-being.

Prof. Foad Nahai founded the ISAPS Patient Safety Diamond, which defines the essential four pillars required for safe aesthetic plastic surgery worldwide.

ISAPS continues to promote safety through ongoing education, accreditation partnerships, ethical guidance, and by empowering both surgeons and patients with trusted information - guided by the work of our Patient Safety Committee.

Statements & Guidelines

As the leading society in aesthetic plastic surgery, ISAPS publish Safety Guidelines based on the latest evidence-based information to contribute to patient safety worldwide.

How We Promote Safety Through Education

Our vision is for safe and effective aesthetic procedures and improved quality of life for all patients worldwide. To achieve this ambitious goal, we provide guidelines for patients about procedures, how to find a surgeon or about considering traveling abroad for a procedure. With the continued growth of Aesthetic/Cosmetic procedures performed abroad, an organization dedicated to safety such as ISAPS is essential.

Qualified Surgeons

ISAPS membership is a mark of excellence. Our surgeons are certified by their national societies, have at least three years of active experience, and are committed to safe, ethical practice.

Promoting Safe Surgical Facilities

ISAPS encourages high safety standards in surgical environments worldwide. Through our collaboration with QUAD A, we support the use of accreditation systems where available. ISAPS advocates for facilities to meet rigorous standards in infrastructure, staffing, equipment, hygiene, and emergency protocols - wherever surgery is performed – ensuring safer outcomes for patients.
