ISAPS Fundraising in Support of Ukraine
- Posted on: Mar 24 2022
ISAPS has considered how to respond to the crisis in Ukraine in the best interests of our Ukrainian members and the patients they support. We are grateful to the ISAPS community for their offers of help and have taken the following steps:
ISAPS has launched a fundraising campaign to support our plastic surgery community in Ukraine. We will continue to consult with our local members to prioritize the best use of any funds generated, whether in the form of emergency support for our members and their families, support of surgical humanitarian missions, or delivering / rebuilding medical services in future.
Some of our members have already expressed interest in offering their medical and surgical expertise or supporting colleagues directly in other various ways. We will keep working with our Humanitarian Programs Committee to explore the most effective ways to provide direct medical support and to coordinate these opportunities.
ISAPS is an apolitical academic, scientific and educational society that has always supported international collaboration. However, what is happening in Ukraine has forced ISAPS to suspend all education programs in, or in cooperation with institutions in, Russia and Belarus, until further notice.
We join the international community in continuing to condemn the military invasion of Ukraine and calling for the withdrawal of Russian forces. Individually, and collectively on behalf of ISAPS, our Board of Directors deplore the loss of life and destruction resulting from this act of aggression. We remain deeply concerned and express our solidarity and support for our Ukrainian colleagues, their families, patients and the people of Ukraine during these catastrophic times.
