France Announces Ban on Macro Textured & Polyurethane Breast Implants
- Posted on: Apr 5 2019
In the latest plastic surgery news, France will implement a ban on macro textured and polyurethane breast implants. The news was announced on Thursday, April 4, 2019.
This ban is a result of the link between breast implants and BIA-ALCL. Since 2011, 56 reported cases of large cell anaplastic lymphoma have been linked to breast implants. France has announced that they will completely ban the distribution, importing, exporting and promotion of these types of implants, which are currently used in around 85% of implant surgeries in the country.
Preventive explantation is NOT recommended. ISAPS will keep you updated on how treatment options using structured implants develop and/or are affected.
