4 Tips to Help You Utilize Snapchat for Your Practice

Do you get nervous when you know you’re on camera? Well, for many plastic surgeons today, being on camera is now part of their job.

There has always been an intense public interest to see surgeons at work. Years ago, surgery channels on TV satisfied this craving. However, with the advent of social media, some medical professionals are taking it to the next level. YouTube channels featuring dermatologists popping pimples have become incredibly popular in the last few years (just check out Dr. Pimple Popper if you don’t believe us). And then, of course, there is the advent of plastic surgery videos on Snapchat.

In recent years, Snapchat has become one of the top social media platforms for millennials and even non-millennials. All plastic surgeons today should have a robust social media presence, from Facebook to Twitter. These are great platforms to connect to your patient, prospective patient and professional networking audience with content such as blogs and articles.

Snapchat is just another example of this, but with a bit of a twist. With Twitter, for example, you are presenting content, whereas with Snapchat, you ARE the content. This means that in order to have a Snapchat presence, you will want to be able to provide a constant stream of entertaining and interesting plastic surgery videos. This can sometimes prove difficult, as you will need consent from your patients in order to Snapchat or post videos of their surgeries. In addition, you will also need something to separate you from the pack, a defining quality that will draw viewers to you.

Whether it be your unique personality or an interesting “trademark” aspect that attracts attention, becoming a Snapchat “star” requires you to dip your foot into show business. This can be an difficult shift for many plastic surgeons to make, as they often don’t consider themselves showmen or -women, but rather solely as medical professionals.

Becoming a Snapchat plastic surgery star also requires more than just coming up with great content and having an interesting personality. It also requires tremendous digital marketing efforts to promote your brand name, as well as the ability to utilize its features to your advantage. Tip 1: Activate Cool Features

First, make sure you have the most up-to-date version of Snapchat on your mobile phone. Once that’s settled, tap the gear icon located in the top-right corner, then tap the “manage” section. This lets you enable bonus features, such as the power save mode, special text, replay and front-facing flash.


Tip 2: Special Text

Captions on a snap can sometimes be boring, so if you want to play it up a bit, try overlaying it with larger texts and emojis, using the special text feature. To do this, tap the “T” next to the pencil icon on the top right corner of your snap draft.


Tip 3: Secret Colors

To draw in a hidden color, drag your finger from the rainbow slider to the left or bottom of the snap. These colors aren’t typically available on the palette.

Android users – you’re in luck! Android devices have the ability to draw with a transparent color by pressing down on the rainbow slider (until the full palette appears) and selecting the transparent option.


Tip 4: Front-Facing Flash

Don’t you hate those times when you want to take a selfie, but the lighting is just too dark? With Snapchat, you can tap the lightning icon on the top left corner to turn on the front-facing flash. This will simply white out your screen, brightening your photo.
