  • German Authorities Recommend Removal of TiBREEZE Breast Implants

    The International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has been officially informed by the German authorities at the BfArM Institute that the former company, GfE Medizintechnik GmbH in Germany, sold implants that were manufactured using PIP components. From September 2003 to August 2004 they were sold under the name TiBREEZE. These silicone implants were coated by GfE Medizintechnik GmbH with a titanium layer and subsequently filled by PIP in France with their silicone gel. Read more

  • ISAPS Official Statement on Faulty PIP and ROFIL Breast Implants

    During a recent French governmental inspection of breast implants manufactured and distributed by PIP and ROFIL Medical Netherlands BV since 2001, health authorities have discovered that most are filled with industrial grade silicone that does not meet the same stringent quality requirements as medical grade silicone. The rupture rate of these implants appears to be five times higher as compared to other implants. Read more

    The remarkable rise in medical tourism, where patients travel out of their home country for their plastic surgery, has put into question the foundation of the patient‐doctor relationship and is endangering many who seek low cost surgery. “We see travel agencies brokering surgery for their clients with surgeons they have never met. The patients have no assurance that their surgeon is properly trained or qualified to perform the procedure they will undergo, and all too often little attention is paid to post‐surgical care,” says Catherine Foss, Executive Director of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
