Introducing ISAPS

Founded in 1970, the ISAPS charter was signed at the United Nations in NYC. The Society was founded to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas and knowledge for the advancement of aesthetic plastic surgery. In addition, ISAPS has become the gold standard for providing continuing education to its members in new procedures, techniques, and options in aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. ISAPS surgeons are members of their national societies of plastic surgery and, in this regard, ISAPS serves as an important bridge among many different professional societies and organizations.

Membership

As the world’s leading professional body for board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeons, ISAPS' mission is three-fold: to continually educate our members in new procedures, techniques, and options in aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery; to accurately inform the public; and to promote patient safety.

To be considered for membership, ISAPS requires that all members maintain active membership in the national society of plastic surgery in the country where they practice. They must be sponsored by an Active or Life ISAPS member and they must adhere to a rigorous review process, which includes demonstrating their practice history beyond graduation from medical school.

There are many reasons why patients should choose an ISAPS member surgeon.

Patient Safety

ISAPS is committed to safety in aesthetic plastic surgery for people across the globe. Members are encouraged to provide their unique skills without charge to local hospitals and clinics to provide reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery to those in need. ISAPS members also participate in media articles about aesthetic plastic surgery to provide the best information for patients.

International Support

In countries where there are three or more members, an ISAPS National Secretary is elected. One of the Secretary’s responsibilities is to monitor local media coverage of aesthetic plastic surgery and to provide accurate and easy-to-understand information to local media and consumer advocates about aesthetic plastic surgery questions of the day.

Protect the Public

Consumer complaints about aesthetic plastic surgeons (whether or not they are about ISAPS members) are taken very seriously and ISAPS uses the influence of its unique position and worldwide recognition of its prestigious membership to protect the public from false claims, unlicensed practitioners, or the use of unapproved procedures or products and outdated equipment and materials.
